Disordered Eating

What Is Disordered Eating?

Disordered eating describes difficult or distressing patterns around food, eating or body image that begin to affect everyday life. This may include restricting food, binge eating, feeling out of control around eating, following rigid food rules or experiencing guilt and anxiety about food.

These patterns can develop for many reasons, including stress, low self-esteem, difficult life experiences, emotional distress or pressure relating to body image.

Can Counselling Help with Disordered Eating?

Yes. Therapy can offer a confidential, non-judgemental space to explore your relationship with food and your body.

A therapist can support you to understand the emotions and patterns connected to your eating, develop greater self-compassion and work towards a healthier relationship with food and yourself.

Where an eating disorder is present, support from a GP, dietitian or specialist service may also be needed alongside therapy.

How Do I Make an Appointment?

You can explore our therapists’ profiles and contact someone directly, or complete our general enquiry form. A member of The Coping Corner may contact you to learn more about the support you are seeking and help connect you with a suitable therapist.
