Developmental Trauma
What Is Developmental Trauma?
Developmental trauma can result from repeated or significant experiences in childhood that left a person feeling unsafe, unsupported or unable to rely on the adults around them. This may include abuse, neglect, instability, loss or other difficult early experiences.
Its effects can continue into adulthood and may influence relationships, self-esteem, emotional regulation and how safe a person feels in the world.
Can Counselling Help with Developmental Trauma?
Yes. Therapy can provide a safe, steady and non-judgemental space to explore how early experiences may still be affecting your life.
A therapist can support you to understand emotional patterns, build a greater sense of safety and work through experiences at a pace that feels manageable. The focus is not only on what happened, but also on helping you develop healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.
How Do I Make an Appointment?
You can explore our therapists’ profiles and contact someone directly, or complete our general enquiry form. A member of The Coping Corner may contact you to learn more about the support you are seeking and help connect you with a suitable therapist.
